Delivered at Place Unloaded
DPU is a term that can be used for any mode of transport.
It means that the seller will have to deliver the merchandise and the risk will pass to the buyer, once the merchandise has been unloaded from the arrival means of transport.
The seller is not required to clear the goods for import.
In the DPU term, the seller bears all the risks involved in bringing the merchandise to the named place of destination and unloading it.
Under this term, delivery and arrival at destination are considered the same.
It is important to consider that the DPU term is the only one that requires the seller to unload the merchandise at destination; therefore, the seller must ensure that he is in a position to unload at the designated place.
However, if the intention of the parties was that the seller does not bear the risk and the cost of the discharge, the term DAP should be better used.
